The Head of the Metolius River is one of the area's must see sights. The Head of the Metolius is tucked away off hwy 20, and well worth the trip. Hike to a viewing spot where you see the beginning of the Metolius River where it seeps out of the ground and becomes a river. In 1988 the Metolius was designated a National Wild and Scenic River because of it's outstanding scenic and recreational qualities. Fed by myriad springs, the temperature and flow rate are constant, creating a very unique environment. This 4,600 acre corridor is just one of ten special management areas in the unique 86,000 acre Metolius Conservation Area.
