The Sisters/Camp Sherman area is prime birding country. Eleven species of woodpeckers nest between Santiam and McKenzie passes, including Lewis's, White-headed, and Black-backed, plus all three western sapsuckers.
The Three Sisters Loop birding trail traces portions of three National Scenic Byways - Santiam-McKenzie Pass to the north, Cascade Lakes on the eastern slope, and West Cascades facing the sunset - for some stunning scenery and incredible habitat diversity at nearly 50 prime birding sites.
